When Jonesboro’s Kylee Petersen left to attend law school in Florida, it wasn’t easy on Omaha native Landon Fisher. A few years of long distance and countless hours on the phone, the couple took a Christmas trip to Grand Cayman—a trip Landon planned for the two of them. Kylee was suspicious, yet Landon managed to convince her not to set any big expectations. She was blown away by his grand design, however: a gorgeous, private dinner on the beach, where he proposed at sunset. “Hearing my best friend ask me to become his wife was the most beautiful moment of my life,” Kylee said, “and of course, it was the easiest ‘yes’ I have ever said.”
The Inspiration
It was the stunning simplicity of the Botanical Garden that caught Kylee’s eye immediately. Neither she nor Landon were interested in anything flashy, or even a true theme. They both wanted the natural beauty to shine through, but when the gardens flooded days before the wedding, they scrambled to find tents. Although it didn’t look exactly like they had planned, the soft purple and gray hues helped the couple pull off an understated classic and romantic day nonetheless.
How They Customized
Although the day may have been a little gray, all of Kylee and Landon’s personal touches still lit up the setting. The flower girl’s basket was trimmed with lace from Kylee’s mother’s wedding dress. The gift table featured a mailbox Landon made on their first Christmas together- a nod to the dozens of letters they wrote while they were apart. They almost ditched the photo booth at the last minute, but were glad they didn’t, using the photo booth prints instead of a traditional guest book.
The Groom’s Idea
Landon made only one request during the planning: He wanted all of the boutonnieres to be made from empty rifle shells. Kylee was hesitant, but they turned out to be an adorably unique touch that was all the groom’s.
